The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series visited the German track at Hockenheim from the 28th until 30th of July.
Over 10,000 spectators came to the track to watch the NASCAR races at this legendary GP track.
It was a weekend with positive and negative aspects for our Elite 1 driver Christophe Bouchut. The setup wasn‘t perfect on Saturday, so he was only able to set the 7th fastest time in qualifying. But Bouchut didn‘t finished in the race because of a technical failure. After a contact with an other driver, our DF1 Nascar #66 had a misfire and Christophe Bouchut, as an experienced driver, stopped the car immediately. His decision was right, because the battery was on the verge of explosion and would have caused a lot of damage.
At Sunday Bouchut started from 8th place. After a very exciting race he ended up 5th. He put a lot of effort in this race and drove perfectly. That‘s why he was rewarded with the top 5 finish. He was also able to hold Elite 1 frontrunner Borja Garcia behind him.
Bouchut said: „At the beginning the DF1-Chevrolet wasn‘t fast enough. I wasn‘t able to keep pace with the two fastest guys. I was caught in a group of racers behind them. The car was getting faster and I was able to overtake some other drivers in front of me. In the end it was 5th place for me. The Frist American Fan Fest in Germany was a great success. Because of the huge number of spectators I was running out of my autograph cards very soon. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and the Hockenheimring made a great show. A lot of fans visited me also in our DF1-hospitality in the paddock.“
In the championship DF1 pilot Christophe Bouchut now has 277 points and in12th position. Only 87 points behind the leader, which shows, that there are still a lot of possibilities at the Semi finals at Franciacorta, where all drivers will get double points.
Elite 2 driver Maciej Dreszer was able to fight for the pole position in qualifying. The spectators saw a great fight with Ulysse Delsaux to get the best starting position. In the end he was able to qualify on 2nd place. In his 7th NASCAR race Dreszer showed his skills anda lot of effort. He was rewarded with the 2nd place overall and a win in the Rookie Championship.
In his second race on Sunday it was all about: „The path of victory is often full of little stones”, because another perfect start by Dreszer was destroyed early by a mistake of race-control. Because of an alleged contact with Guillaume Dumarey he had to take immediately a “drive through” penalty. Onboard-Videos of our team showed that Dreszer did not cause the accident at the beginning of the race. Even so Maciej was able to collect some positive experiences out of this race, and at Hockenheim he collected his first lead laps!
The young driver from Poland said: „I was punished for an accident which wasn‘t my fault. Something like this happens, it‘s okay. I love NASCAR and I will give everything to get back to the semi-finals in Franciacorta as strong as possible. The first American Fan Fest was a great experience. Over 10,000 spectators visited the track and a lot of them came to our DF1-hospitality. My personal highlight was the meeting with the superheroes. My helmet is related to “Bumble Bee” from Transformers, so I was in good company. I really hope that there will be another American Fan Fest here in Hockenheim next year. I‘m looking forward to coming back to Germany.“
Maciej Dreszer has after the 8th round of NWES 282 points and is 2nd Rookie and in 4th position overall in Elite 2. Only 4 points behind the 2nd place and 42 points behind the leader. We think there is more to come in Franciacorta….
The races of the Elite Club Division occurred on Friday afternoon. Deo Alves raced for DF1 and took the 6th place. The Brazilian driver did a perfect job and drove some perfect laps. DF1 driver Deo Alves and his wife also enjoyed the company of the fans from Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. He also amused the rest of our DF1 team by wearing his DF1wooden cap on arrival, although it was more than hot at the racetrack.
DF1 team manager David Prewitt: „The weekend was a great challenge for us. We had planned to come to Hockenheim with our second DF1 Nascar #99. But our old #66 was totally destroyed after the crash at Venray two weeks ago and we had to change our strategy. We adapted the new car as our new NASCAR #66 and due to the short period of time between these two races, we will start with our second car #99 for the first time at Franciacorta. We handled everything at the last minute and went to Hockenheim Thursday morning to build up our garage and hospitality. I am very proud of our mechanics managed by Eduard and Fred and my thanks are with all our mechanics, who did an awesome job. We gathered a lot of important points this weekend for the championship. As a team we have now 554 points and are in 5th position in the NWES Team Championship, only 83 points behind the leading team. We are looking forward to the Semi-finals in Franciacorta after the short summer break. We will test in Italy in August so that our drivers are perfectly prepared and we hope for good results and that they will get a spot on the podium.“
