The Austrian team again found a talented race car driver from Denmark for its EuroNASCAR program
Denmark and DF1 Racing were already an unbeatable combination in the 2020 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) EuroNASCAR 2 (EN2) championship. For the upcoming season, the Austrian team again found a talent from the north: Andreas Jochimsen from Norre Alslev.
The 22-year-old race driver impressed with strong performances in his home country and made himself a name in the Danish racing world. In 2017 and 2018, the youngster raced in the Danish Thundersport Championship where he scored two impressive pole positions. In 2019, he won the Am-classification of the Super GT Denmark driving a Mercedes.
In 2020, Jochimsen wants to walk in the footsteps of Lasse Soerensen, who won the EN2 title with DF1 Racing after joining the series late in Italy. Despite the late entry, Soerensen impressed with wins and strong results and became the first rookie to grab the title. Denmark and Austria do not only share the same red-white colors in their national flags, they are also a strong combination in the NWES. Jochimsen surely wants to have the same success as his fellow countryman in the last season.
“Actually, this opportunity came up a bit unexpected not that long ago,” said the new DF1 Racing tiger. “I got in contact with Norbert Walchhofer from DF1 Racing and we decided to have a meeting. After the meeting, I was pretty sure that EuroNASCAR is a good way for me to get into the international racing scene, especially with a team such as DF1 Racing. I think this championship can provide me with a lot of good experiences that will for sure help me develop my racing career. I’m really happy to get a chance to prove myself in EuroNASCAR and I thank DF1 Racing for this great opportunity.”
“I am pleased to welcome a young, fast driver to our team. Thanks to Kris Nissen, who drew our attention to Andreas Jochimsen in the summer of 2019, we were already able to take a look at his skills by ourselves,” said DF1 motorsport boss Norbert Walchhofer. “Andreas convinced with his driving skills. His development in 2019 was so positive that now is the right time to enter an international series. At our first personal meeting a few weeks ago in our workshop, we were also impressed by his very professional approach to motorsport. It is well known that Denmark has delivered many excellent drivers in the international motorsport business and so we will do our best to make him a true champion. We welcome our new DF1 tiger!”
The 2020 NWES season kicks off on April 25-26 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. Jochimsen will make his debut as a DF1 tiger in the European NASCAR championship. The expectations are high and the team hopes that the Dane will leave a mark in the upcoming EN2 championship
