The Finn will pull double duties in the EuroNASCAR PRO and EuroNASCAR 2 for the Austrian powerhouse.
The driver squad planning of DF1 Racing for the 2020 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) is complete. The last piece of the puzzle was used to fill the #23 Chevrolet Camaro. The team from Austria has signed Henri Tuomaala from Hyvinkää, Finland. The current Challenger Trophy champion will compete in both, the EuroNASCAR PRO and EuroNASCAR 2 championship.
Tuomaala is racing in the NWES since the 2018 season and has caused quite a stir since then. In 2018 the 31-year-old made his debut at the Hockenheimring and immediately scored a top-10 result in the EuroNASCAR PRO championship. In the three following races in Germany and in Zolder, Belgium, he also impressed with solid results despite his limited experience in the series.
The Finn contested his first full-time season in 2019, winning the Challenger Trophy – the special classification for silver and bronze drivers – in the EuroNASCAR PRO Championship in a battle with the European NASCAR elite. In Most, Czech Republic, Tuomaala grabbed the best EuroNASCAR result of his career so far with an eighth place. In 2020, the new DF1 Tiger will fight for both, the EuroNASCAR 2 and Challenger Trophy titles by pulling double duties.
“I am delighted to have found a new team with DF1 Racing,” said Tuomaala. “I have now gained a lot of experience in a EuroNASCAR car and DF1 Racing has been successfully involved in the NWES for a very long time. That’s why I believe that I will get a lot of help from the team to get to the top”.
DF1 Racing Head of Motorsport Norbert Walchhofer said: “First let me send a big thank you to Ian Eric Waden, who introduced the Finn Henri Tuomaala to our DF1 Racing team. We saw that there were really fast drivers from Scandinavia joining the series in the past years and it’s a great honor for us to sign the reigning 2019 NWES Challenger Trophy Champion for the 2020 season. It will be his first year racing under our DF1 Racing banner. The blue tiger Chevrolet is already waiting for him to be tamed. We are happy that Henri made the decision to benefit from our technical support and marketing activities. He will bring his brand new Chevrolet Camaro to our workshop and drive the #23 NWES beast in 2020. Henri Tuomaala will pull double duties by starting in th EuroNASCAR PRO and EuroNASCAR 2 championship. We are looking forward to a successful long term partnership.”
The NWES will start late into the new season due to the coronavirus crisis. The races at Valencia and Brands Hatch have already been postponed. Currently EuroNASCAR is planning to start into the new season on June 20-21 at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic.
